“Edith” by Angela Hill
“Edith” by Angela Hill published by Idea exclusive pre-launch has arrived at Dover Street Market. Basement.
The books spans two decades but centres around the teenage years of Angela's daughter, Edith. Edith Owen's often evident displeasure at being photographed makes “Edith” a truly truthful book of adolescence. The relationship between photographer and subject is very real in the book.
Many of the photographs were shot for fashion editorials for magazines including “Fantastic Man”, “The Gentlewoman”, “W Magazine”, “Man about Town” and “Doesn't Exist”. During this period, Edith was also photographed by Ari Marcopoulos, Collier Schorr and others. The hallmarks of Angela Hill's naturalistic style are perhaps to be found most clearly in the photographs that were't shot for magazines. Angela shoots Edith at home in her bedroom or kitchen, on a train on a family holiday, as if the camera wasn't there.
