Matières Fécales and Luncheon No 21 at DSM
Matières Fécales and Luncheon Magazine celebrate the SS26 collection and Luncheon No 21 at Dover Street Market with Hannah Rose, Steven Raj, Jordan Hemingway and Nikki Lilly. Guests enjoyed music by Parma Ham and a complimentary MAC Cosmetics gift with purchase.
Created as a love letter to Hannah, the SS26 collection takes inspiration from her second name, Rose, which the creative and life partners have always seen as a symbol of the cycle of life and death.

To celebrate the launch, DSM spoke with Hannah Rose and Steven Raj.
Can you tell us about your first interactions with Dover Street Market and what it means to you to now be part of the Dover Street Market Family?
Our first time going to Dover Street Market was in New York in 2015. On October 31st, Halloween, we ran away to New York. We took the Greyhound bus from Montréal to escape our constricting environment, hoping to find a sense of belonging somewhere. We went to the Met Museum for the fashion exhibit and felt so inspired by all the incredible looks, but couldn’t dive deeper into it because everything is protected.
After the exhibit, we took a stroll around town and found ourselves at DSMNY. It was like being Alice in Wonderland. Not only did we get to experience the same level of beauty as the Met, but we also got to touch the pieces and even try them on! We stayed for so long trying extreme pieces from Comme des Garçons, Rick Owens, and emerging brands we'd never heard of. Even if we couldn’t afford anything, especially since we were practically homeless in NYC, we knew we belonged there, and it could be a home for our designs one day.
What kind of experience do you want the Dover Street Market customer to have when encountering the Matières Fécales space and collection in-store?
We want the DSM customer to feel a sense of belonging and fearlessness that we longed for before we transformed into our authentic selves today. It’s that intention we pour into every piece we create that’s part of our collections. The space is designed as an extension of our Parisian home, in hopes of helping the customer feel like an extended family member within our universe. These are our foundational collections, meaning they're created in a very intimate and vulnerable way, with us involved in every aspect of the design process. Each piece is sketched by Steven and thoughtfully produced in hopes of upholding our values through every seam. It’s our identity, with all its complexity, within each piece. We really hope they experience the humanity within our work.
Looking at the collection currently in store at DSM, what aspects of your design approach (whether technical, conceptual, or emotional) feel most significant for you at this moment in your creative journey?
The SS26 “Hannah” collection was a love letter to my life and work partner, Hannah Rose. She inspires me daily and really represents our vision of beauty for the label. She’s fearless yet so vulnerable all at the same time. We approached the design of this collection with the intention of articulating the idea that beauty has no boundaries within the Matières Fécales world, whether it’s the unravelled, sharp-tailoring pieces, the precisely chaotic wrapped Tulle suits or our Pierre Molinier uncensored collaboration jersey offering, they all embody our goal to redefine what it means to be beautiful: deconstructing the codes of perfection in fashion and proposing frameworks that enhance the beauty of imperfection. What started as a monologue about our vision of beauty is now transforming into a dialogue between our customers, who embody our values by wearing Matières Fécales, and us.
The SS26 collection and DSM exclusive items from Matières Fécales are now available in-store and online on the DSML E-SHOP.
