DSML Jewellery Focus — Gaspard Yurkievich

Fashion designer Gaspard Yurkievich has created three dresses for Dover Street Market. He has invited Van Cleef & Arpels to present two new Vintage Alhambra creations alongside him. To highlight the ensemble, Gaspard Yurkievich has imagined a set design in association with the French artist Valérie Belin, who has created a new work specially for the occasion.

“I wanted to pay homage to the Alhambra collection by placing it inside an artistic environment that offers the icon a new interpretation. I like the energy produced by this type of encounter,” explains Gaspard Yurkievich.

“This piece is the continuation of a long-standing collaboration with Van Cleef & Arpels, and reveals our mutual attachment to a form of magical realism. It underlines the play of superimpositions that Gaspard Yurkievich has devised to accompany the intensity of onyx. So I created a black-and-white image in a mirror layout, with two images reversed in an interplay of positive and negative. Midway between a portrait and a still life, it explores the boundaries between reality and illusion.” Valérie Belin.
